Boost Your Memory with Brain Training

When we think about our brain, we usually associate it with our memory. This is one of its great functions.  Did you know that you can you can boost your memory?

We see too often that while aging our memory does not seem to be as efficient as it used to be. So let’s clear up something here: scientists and neurologists agree nowadays that memory loss is not a normal part of aging! The sad truth is that they haven’t got much to offer to people in the way of prevention.

You can boost your memory.

Brain Training Can Boost Your Memory

It seems so easy for kids to learn and remember: numbers, stories, details of their vacation from 2 years ago that you, on the other hand, had completely forgotten. Have you ever thought that if you train your brain more often it would help you to keep your memory efficient and focused?

Nowadays, we have smart phones to remind us of our agenda and to keep our full list of contacts. The only phone number we need to remember is our own phone number! If we don’t remember the route to go from point A to point B, we ask our GPS. Those little things have made things easier and at the same time it takes away daily exercises that can keep our brain young.

We cannot emphasize enough that the brain is a “Use it or Lose it” organ. So this month we would like to share with you a few tips and small exercises to work out your brain effortlessly.

Exercise 1 to Boost Your Memory:

At the end of the day, try to remember and acknowledge all the small and good things that you have accomplished during the day, or those small moments when you saw someone happy around you. It will not only train your memory but also nurture a positive feeling that you can keep with you until the next day.

Exercise 2 to Boost Your Memory:

Being present at the moment is also a great way to boost your memory. This exercise is all about paying attention to the small movements your body does to make an action.
For example: you come home, get out of your car, open the door and say hello to your family. We repeat this short moment everyday without even knowing that we have done it. How often do you wonder if you have locked your car for instance? Or you had your coffee cup in your hand but can’t remember where you left it between the car and your kitchen. Do you know that people spend every day 10 min on average rummaging for lost items…

So now, let’s rewind this short sequence. Once you have parked, look at how you open your door. Where do you place your hand for example? Look at how you step out of your car. What do you carry in one hand and how do you close the door with the other? What are the movements your body does simultaneously in this action? Then pay attention to how and when you lock your car. Is it while standing near the car, or while walking to the door of the house? Are you on the phone while walking? And so on and so on…

By paying attention to the moment, you fully engage your brain and your body in the present action. Repeating this exercise every day will help you discover what it means to be present at the moment and learn to do it more often. Soon enough you may notice that you don’t look for your car keys or your coffee mug or wonder if your car is locked.

Exercise 3 to Boost Your Memory:

Read more often, telling stories to your kids or grand-kids is also a good way to train your memory. You can ask you kids or grand-kids to explain to you what they have understood and remembered in a book they have read. That’s a good way to boost their brain too. Learning something new, will help you too.

Testimonial of the month

Adam* came to visit us for memory and marital issues following his wife’s advice. They had found themselves entangled in animosity and anger issues. Adam had also noticed that he had to write everything down at work as he was afraid of forgetting things. Moreover, the medical history of his family shows that his father suffered from Alzheimer’s disease. Adam, only 45 years old at the time, was eager to address this issue as soon as possible.

After a few sessions with us, he felt less anxious and less overwhelmed. Very quickly, his mind was less cluttered and he had fewer unnecessary and unwanted thoughts. As a result, he started to sleep better. At the end of the full program, he left us with a good memory, a memory he could rely on. And peace came back in his marital relationship.

We wish you a joyful month of September and hope you take advantage of the start of this school season to get out of your routine!
